Tea in the City

IMG_4905.JPG

Walk in the door and an unusual but inviting aroma greets you. An urban, city feel with clean lines, you take a deep breath, look around and notice the shop is comfortable and down-to-earth with colorful leaves wondering the ceiling. Black, Green, White, Oolong, Herbal, Rooibos, Fruit and Estate; get lost in a world of tea.

Hina is a bubbly, fun loving person who immediately makes you feel at home. Her staff adopts a small town, easy-going mentality getting to know many customers by name.

Tea is fun at Hina’s. You can feel everyone’s passion about sharing and showing people how to brew a proper cup of tea. Customers are given time and attention and Hina is not shy about correcting faupaws. For example, White Tea is always drunk alone and not with milk. It is a lighter tea and to taste it’s nuances, it needs to be drunk solo.

Opened March of 2007 in Midtown, Hina’s has been a gathering, tea drinking and socializing spot for many. The roomy, comfortable seating and Wifi lead to taking your coat off and relaxing a while. This is definitely a great place to meet friends, have an anytime tea and hang out.

Hina’s husband insented her to come up with the idea, being a huge tea drinker himself. A former computer software developer who traveled the world and lived out of her suitcase, she wanted to slow down and get a life. This, combined with ordering tea from overseas to keep up with her husband’s tea consumption caused her to take this leap into the tea world.

Top selling items include White Devine Temple tea (a combination of black and green teas with dried fruit) and the Sweet Tea Latte (wild strawberry black tea, vanilla smoothie powder and milk foam). Both are served hot or cold. One of Hina’s personal favorites is Assam Doomer Dullung BPS, a bold, creamy black tea, great for coffee drinkers looking to switch.

Only organic spices are used in teas and drinks (try the Chai and you’ll be hooked!) She sources these from Starwest Botanicals, a local producer. The milk and soy milk used in lattes and other drinks is also organic.

If you are in need of tea related gifts (think Christmas), she has a nice selection of tea parafanalia and other tea miscellaneous items. Tea comes prepackaged in various sizes or you can choose any tea you want in any size from behind the counter.

And don’t forget about Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. free movie times. Her staff came up with this idea. They preview various pictures, both old and new, which are shown at the shop. Remember this on rainy days to come!
