Have You Tried?: Handmade Tortillas

What: Abuelita's Sonora Style Corn Tortillas and Micaela's Original Recipe California Wheat Tortillas (whole wheat and white)
Where: Abuelita's at Corti Brothers and Nugget; Micaela's at Corti, Nugget, and the Sacramento Co-op
Why: These locally made tortillas (Abuelita's are from Sacramento and Micaela's are from Woodland) are beautifully irregular in shape and marked with flecks of brown from cooking. Both brands are moist without being gummy and they're flexible (no more broken tortillas for enchiladas!). Plus they're super delicious—even the Micaela's whole wheat version.
Perfect for quesadillas, which sounds great right about now.

okay, do they sell to the public. Raley's is too expensive

I haven't seen these tortillas at Raley's, but have you looked at the other stores? You could also try the Davis Food Co-op.

You can get handmade tortillas at Denios in Roseville... I've only been there once, so I don't know if they always have them for sale.

They are thicker flour, but so much better. Nutrionally
whole wheat is 1/3 more carbs than a store bought tortilla, and best of all NO sugar. Great for diabetics!Thank-you Mama Lupe Y Micaela's. Pedricks will definetly be a good stop off of Highway 80 out of Sacraments!

I really like Abuelita's Corn Tortillas. Once you try them, you will never go back to the cheap thin dry machine made ones. These are so much better and well worth it! I had been looking for a better tortilla for many years until I came across these. So good and healthy, too!

Only thing is i don't know where to get more in San Jose where i live. Argh!! Can anyone help me, please?
[from Ann: The best bet is to call the company at 877-538-7972, the number listed on their packages. Good luck!]

My wife and I live in San Jose and stopped at Pedrick Produce in Davis as we headed home from Sacramento. We bought a package of Micaela's tortillas and BAM!!! These ARE THE BEST TORTILLAS I have ever had (next to my mom's)!!!! Now, everytime we go back to Sacto area, we buy at least 10 dozen!!!!! I've even drove from San Jose to Dixon JUST TO BUY SOME. Micaela's are the best!!!!!

I had Micaela's flour tortillas last week on the way back to Bay Area from Davis. I can say that this is the best tortilla! I am going back again to get Whole wheat tortillas this week. I called Micaela's and asked where else we could find their tortillas. They sell at Nugett in Vacaville, Davis, and Sacramento, Co-op, and the pruduce market in Dixon.

Does anyone know where I can buy Mi Abuelita tortillas in Marin County? The Marin Farmer's Market no longer carries them...
